Mr. Robert Edward Knight Obituary

Robert Edward Knight age 85, son of Mary Peters Knight and Legrand Knight was ushered into heaven March 21, 2025. Bob had a heart transplant in June 1999 and was forever grateful to Rick Allmon and his family for 25 years of extended life. Mr. Knight leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Linda Kay Girod Knight; his sons Eric and wife Andrea, Brandon and wife Jennifer, and Derek Sheedy; as well as his grandchildren Cody and wife Ainsley, Caitlyn, Cole, Madeline, Charlotte, and CJ; and his great granddaughter, Evelyn.

Devoted to his wife Linda, the couple embodied the biblical concept, "the two shall become one." Often, "Bob-and-Linda" or "Nana-and-Papa" were spoken as a single word. Mr. Knight (Bob or Bobby to his family) loved his family and was very proud of his sons and their accomplishments, especially their hearts for serving others.

Mr. Knight was born April 13, 1939 in Tyler, Texas. He graduated from Tyler High School in 1957 and from Texas Tech University with degrees in mathematics and physics (BS 1961, MS 1965). He began his career in 1961 at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico as a data analyst, worked for General Dynamics in Fort Worth. Joining the IBM corporation in 1966, retiring in 1994 as a member of the IBM Executive Team. Bob later became a spokesperson for the Saint Paul Heart and Lung Transplant Foundation and the United Network for Organ Sharing.

Mr. Knight was a man of deep faith. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at a Billy Graham Crusade in El Paso, Texas in 1962, served as a deacon in five Southern Baptist churches and as a missionary for the Southern Baptist North American Mission Board for three years. Passionate about sharing the word of God, he taught Sunday School classes and home Bible studies for over 40 years in just about every community in which he lived, desiring for every participant to come to know Christ as their Savior sand the Bible as their guidebook for life.
