Maxine Gray Obituary

Maxine Crowder Gray passed away on December 8, 2024, at the age of 79, in Rowlett, Texas. Born on December 16, 1944, in Dallas, Texas, to the late Roland McCoy (Mac) and Clara (Bridewell) Crowder, Maxine's life was characterized by her curiosity, intelligence, artistic flair, and the warm affection she had for her family, friends, and the many lives she touched. Maxine's journey through life was one marked by devotion and partnership. She was the beloved wife of the late Leslie Vaughn (Les) Gray, with whom she shared 56 years of marriage until his passing on April 4, 2022. The couple's love for each other was a testament to commitment, mutual respect and values that they instilled in their son, Jerry Gray, and his wife, Trisha. Maxine's legacy of love continued to blossom in the joy she found in her granddaughter, Lexie Gray, who brought immense happiness to her later years. Maxine spent 36 years as vice president of Les Gray & Co., Inc supporting Les in their fuel system service, supply and construction business, she performed various duties in the company while raising their son Jerry. She also made time to go back to school to earn an associate's degree from East Field College. She had a zest for meeting new people and helping others whenever she could. Maxine's interests included spending time with her granddaughter, traveling with friends across the globe and taking road trips with many other friends they met through several classic car clubs of which they were members. Maxine & Les were active members of the local Antique Automobile Club of America, Metroplex Early Birds, Rockwall County Historical Foundation, Rockwall Republican Men's Club, Dallas Early Ford V8 Club and the Big "D" Little Birds. Maxine had a tender spot for the natural world, particularly the many plants, cats, dogs, horses, chickens, fish and many others she cared for over the years. These simple joys reflected her appreciation for life's wonders and her ability to find contentment in the world around her. Maxine is survived by son: Jerry Gray and wife Trisha; grandchild: Lexie Gray and her special kitty Koi, plus a host of many wonderful cousins, nieces, nephews, and so many wonderful friends. Maxine's departure leaves behind a void that cannot be filled, yet her memory will continue to inspire and guide us. She was a woman who lived her life with grace, dignity, and a spirit of generosity. Her influence will persist in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know her and in the indelible mark she left on the world.
