She was born May 23, 1934, in Sandtown Bottom, Okla., to Morgan and Beulah Richards. Genny grew up in Vian, Okla. She and her husband raised their family in Hutchinson, Kan. before moving to Holland, Mich. Upon retirement, the couple moved to Rockwall, Texas. She was a member of Lakepointe Church, and also a part of the BSF Bible study.
She accomplished many things in her life. In Kansas, as a young women, she worked for Dillons stores, was a member of PEO, and after raising her children, she became a paralegal. In Michigan, she was a manager for ManPower Inc., participated as a Stephens minister and a hospice counselor. In Texas, Genny was an avid Rockwall County master gardener, a member of the Bag Ladies Book Club, and enjoyed being a Red Hatter with the funny nickname of Diva Electra. She enjoyed cooking and was even featured in the newspaper. Genny was passionate about people and mentored many young ladies to always believe in themselves. She had a beautiful servants heart, loved people and everyone loved her in return.
Genny adored her family, her kids and grandkids but especially her husband, Tom, of 60 years. They will miss her tremendously.
Genny is survived by her loving husband, Tom Smith; daughter, Laurie Lagerberg and husband Jeff; grandsons, Adam and Brett Lagerberg; son, Richard Smith and wife Leah; granddaughters, Rachel and Lauren Smith; brother, Donald Short Richards and wife Shirley; and sisters, Bobbie Rasmussen and Mary Fitzgerald; along with a host of loving relatives and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Alan Richards; and sister, Betty Graham.
A celebration of Genny's life will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 16, at Reflections at Rest Haven Funeral Home, at 2500 Highway 66, in Rockwall, Texas, with Bill Stevens officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be in the name of Genny Smith to the Rockwall County Master Gardener Association at 915 Whitmore, Suite B, Rockwall, TX 75087.
