Twilla René Blanchette Fontenot, 51, passed into the presence of her Heavenly Father on March 4, 2014, having fought the good fight of faith.
She lived and loved passionately in everything she did, leaving a powerful legacy of Godly love, laughter, dancing, and life lessons to all who knew and adored her. She served her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with all of her heart and soul. Family, friends, and those who knew her in the community will always remember her for her fervent compassion, love, and service. She always took time to share the love of Jesus with those she met each day of her life. Those who truly know her will always remember with fond laughter the many times of waiting on Twilla while she stopped to minister to someone she had never met. At the grocery store, in church, and at home, she brought life to people. She was the person who brought people closer to one another, who held together her family, her friends, and her community.
Twilla adored her loving and devoted husband of 32 years, Johnny Fontenot. Together, they served the Lord and powerfully impacted the lives of so many people: family, friends, and those they met in their many travel experiences around the world. She adored her two beautiful children, Savannah Fontenot Hill and Jordan Fontenot. In 2011, a son-in-law, Brady Hill, joined her family and she adored his Godly love for Savannah. On Feb. 18, she experienced the unspeakable joy of the birth of her first grandchild, Holden Zane Hill. Her world was complete in the circle of her family and her legacy lives on.
Twilla was a faithful community leader and volunteer, both in Rowlett and Rockwall. She tirelessly ministered love and grace to countless people in the ministry areas that were so near and dear to her heart. She and Johnny have been faithful members of Lake Pointe Church since 1992, participating in Life Groups and supporting various other church ministries throughout her life. She participated on mission teams that served the homeless in downtown Dallas, and she went on mission trips to Cuba and New York City, maintaining a heartfelt correspondence with several people she served. She led several Bible study groups, even until the last week of her life. Her impact in ministry efforts, at home and around the world, is eternal and will live on beyond her years in this life.
Twilla graduated from LaGrange High School in Lake Charles, La., in 1980. She completed a bachelor’s degree in education at Lamar University in Beaumont in 1985, having also attended LSU and McNeese State University. While studying, Twilla was always active in leadership and ministry areas. She loved and adored her many, many friends — several of whom have remained lifelong friends.
In addition to her husband, children, and grandchild, those left to cherish her beautiful, Godly life are her loving sisters, Donna Bagley Tanner (David) and Kitty Bagley Bruns (Richard); her faithful brother, Ricky Bagley (Annette); her sister-in-law, Linda Thibodeaux (Hebert) — all of Lake Charles, La.; her Huber Family — Gail, Natalie, Hollie, Chuck, Todd, Paul, David, Mark, Larry, Philip, Mike, their spouses and extended family; her stepmother, Helena Blanchette; half-brother James Marlin Blanchette; her numerous and adored nieces, nephews, and all of their children; her dear and faithful friends/sisters, Jackie Trahan, Missy Perry, and Shelly Carvan; and so many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. Truly her life was filled with an abundance of family and friends — all of whom she shared special, priceless moments of love and laughter.
Twilla was preceded in death by her parents, A.J. Blanchette and Sam and Sue Huber, and Johnny’s parents, Jim and Bertha Fontenot.
