She was born May 12, 1921, in Rockwall to Ollie L. and Opal (Green) Steger. After receiving her education, Sue worked during the war years as chief clerk of the Office of Price Administration, the Rations Board for Rockwall County. After 1944, she worked in the sales office of Southern Aircraft in Garland, where turbines for war aircraft were made. After the war, Sue worked as a bookkeeper and receptionist for Martin Funeral Home and met the love of her life, Robert C. Whitehead, who was still in the Reserve Army escorting war casualties. After a whirlwind courtship, they were married; and Sue then worked in the title business with her father, where she remained for many, many years.
Sue is survived by one son, the light of her life, Robert Charles “Bobby” Whitehead; one granddaughter, Courtney Suzanne Whitehead; one grandson, Robert Casey Whitehead and wife Caitlin; three great-grandsons, Coen, Mac and Chase Whitehead; one great-granddaughter, Savannah Lollar; two loving nieces, Cyndie Sue Patrick and Diana Wade Chapman; one nephew, O.L.
