Patrick's Story

Patrick D. Griffin, 90, of Rockwall, Texas, passed away March 3, 2018.
He was born May 12, 1927, in Belleville, Ill., to Stephen William Griffin and Elizabeth Ann (Buncher) Griffin. Mr. Griffin was raised and attended high school in Belleville, then graduated from Millikin University in Decatur, Ill., in 1951. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and later began working for the Monsanto Company in 1951, where he remained until his retirement. Mr. Griffin was a member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW, the American Legion and Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Being with family was his little piece of Heaven, and he was always there for anyone who needed him. Mr. Griffin especially loved to take his kids camping. His other hobbies included woodworking and stamp collecting, as well as being an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Mr. Griffin's wonderful, kind spirit will be missed by many.
He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Ruth Griffin of Rockwall; children Kathleen Ann Westerman and husband Paul of Plano, Texas, Stephen John Griffin of Rockwall, Mary Elaine Nash and husband Tod of San Antonio, Texas, Matthew Robert Griffin and wife Cheryl of Terrell, Texas, and Patrick Joseph Griffin and wife Kristin of Austin, Texas; sister Mary Yvonne May of Summerville, SC; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and a host of loving relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dennis Griffin, sister Eileen Bonney and granddaughter Kate Griffin.
A celebration of Patrick's life will be held 11 a.m., Friday, March 23, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 1305 Damascus Rd., Rockwall, 75087, with Father George Monaghan officiating.
A gathering for family and friends will be held Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Home - Rowlett Chapel with a Rosary at 7 p.m.
