Nancy Matthews, 73, blessed with insight, humor and an underlying strength, was born Nov. 9, 1939, and died Oct. 14, 2013, of kidney failure.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Jerry, and is survived by her daughter, Sally; son Kevin; daughter-in-law Gloria; and a granddaughter, Julia. Born Nancy Jane Meiser in Toledo, Ohio, she was the second of four children and is also survived by three loving brothers, Ken, Bob and Bill, and their families.
Nancy loved fine art, crafts, animals, jazz and rock music, puns, rhymes and prayers. She had a rare talent for the visual arts, earning a bachelor’s degree at Ohio State University in fine art and winning juried prizes. She made paintings, sculptures and prints, and in later years had an ability to draw and paint with clarity even though her hands trembled.
Services will be held Oct. 26, 10 a.m., at Northaven United Methodist Church, 11211 Preston Road, Dallas, Texas 75230, where Nancy was a member for decades.
Gifts in her memory may be made to the Collin County Humane Society, which serves Rockwall.
