Nancy was born March 26, 1939, in Tacoma, Wash. She was the only child of Agnes and Rudolph Johnson, and the granddaughter of immigrants from Sweden.
Nancy earned her undergraduate degree from Stanford University and a PhD from University of North Dakota in 1979. Nancy began her career as a physical therapist, and after earning her PhD, practiced as a psychologist until her retirement.
On Dec. 17, 1960, Nancy married William Borden, who preceded her in death in 2010.
Nancy was an avid gardener, baker, gourmet cook, and canner of delicious jams and pickles. She loved to play cards and games and read mysteries. She never met a stranger. She was also known for the many beautiful blankets, sweaters, and scarves she knitted for her grandchildren and friends. She loved flowers, the theater, art and travel adventures.
Nancy's family, friends and colleagues also remember Nancy for her activism for equal rights. She was a feminist and strong supporter of civil rights. Her strength and fortitude were inspirational to all who knew her.
She is survived by her three children, Andrew, Sara, and Rachel; seven grand-children, Christine, Katherine, Sarina, Priya, Makayla, Josie and Lexie; and two great grand-children, Hudson and Presley.
