Milbren Hickman, a 36-year resident of Royse City, went to be with the Lord on July 10, 2013, at the age of 81.
He was born June 30, 1932, in Alpine, Ark., to Bryant and Effie Blackwood Steele. Milbren proudly served his country 40 years before retiring from the United States Army. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Royse City.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed by his family and friends, particularly around all the fishing holes and the deer woods of Pike County Ark. He was a master mechanic who enjoyed teaching son, sons-in-law and grandsons to “work on their cars until they could afford to hire it done.” He was a wonderful father and impossible to replace. His children idolized him and adored their precious father. He was a wonderful Godly man who is now worshipping his Saviour for eternity. Everyone who knew him will miss his sweet smile and beautiful sparkling blue eyes! Milbren was truly one of a kind, he will be missed.
Milbren’s greatest comfort was to know that all his children, their spouses, and grandchildren love the Lord and serve Him. It is our great hope that he hears the words that we all long to hear, “Job well done. Good and faithful servant.”
Milbren is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Marjorie Ann (Williams) Hickman; children Shelia Gail Hickman and husband Kirk, Kenneth Glen Hickman and wife Kimberly, and Shirley Ann Granstaff and husband Brent; siblings Gene Hickman, Troy Steele and wife Shirley, Leo Steele and wife Betty, Marion Lee Steele, Mary Venable and husband John, Judy Pate and husband Roy and Julia Imler; grandchildren J.M. Garza and wife Michaelle, Michael Garza and wife Linda, Matt Garza and wife Carlotta, Kristin, Katherine and Kurt Hickman, and Jacob, Jacklyn and Jillian Granstaff; and great-grandchildren Gracie, Austin and Olivia Garza.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were July 13, 2013, at First Baptist Church, 900 Pullen Rd., Royse City, with Pastor Chad Hays officiating. Interment was at Rest Haven Memorial Park.
