Melvin Robert Jones was born March 4, 1928, in Duncan, Okla., and passed away at 7:14 a.m. on July 3, 2017, at his home in Fate, Texas, surrounded by family. Melvin grew up in Duncan. He was half Choctaw Indian and was a member of the Choctaw Nation. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1946 where he served in World War II and was honorably discharged in 1948.
On March 3, 1949, he married the woman of his life. They married in Riverside, Calif., where he worked at Rohr Aircraft for 35 years and raised his five children with his wife. In 1981 they retired to Kingman, Ariz., where he continued to work as a security officer at The Regency Hotel & Casino in Laughlin, Nev., for 12 years. Shortly after his wife passed in 2000, he moved to Dallas, Texas, where he lived with his two daughters, Sue and Pat.
Melvin enjoyed playing tennis, walking, playing video poker and gardening. But he lived for his family. They were the most loved and cherished among all his belongings. He will be greatly missed and was loved by all. He never met a stranger.
