Zula Maxine Brooks, a lifelong resident of Rockwall died Jan. 23, 2014.
She was born Nov. 25, 1932, to the founders of the Zollner/Hobo Ranch, Henry and Zula Willess Zollner. Maxine graduated from Rockwall High School and married her high school sweetheart, David Vinson Brooks, on Aug. 11, 1951. Together they raised their five children on the Zollner Ranch, and she became the matriarch of the Zollner/Hobo Ranch legacy. Maxine was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her children, David Wayne Brooks and wife Paula, Sheri Bendorf, Ben “Benji” Brooks and Zula Kay Aaron and husband Rob; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Zula Zollner; husband David Vinson Brooks; brother Ben Henry Zollner; and son Carl Henry Brooks.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Jan. 29, 2014, at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall Chapel with Pastor Linda Aaron officiating. Interment followed in Rockwall Memorial Cemetery. The family received friends Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
