MARY's Story

Mary Jo Polk, 82, of Rockwall passed away June 23, 2013, leaving behind a life well-lived and family and friends who dearly love her.  
She was born June 11, 1931, in Midland to George Marvin and Ruby Rae (Shoemake) Johnston. Mrs. Polk was a trailblazing educator in the field of dyslexia and other learning disabilities in the Rockwall Independent School District, Legacy School of Rockwall, at SMU and for the state of Texas. Mrs. Polk was a member of Lake Pointe Church, and a truly Godly woman.
She will be missed by her children, Gary Robert Polk and wife Gaylia and Jo Beth Cathey and husband Dean; grandchildren Matthew Robert Polk, Andrew Joseph Polk, Sally Ruth Polk, Joshua Dean Cathey, Caleb Robert Cathey, and Micah Ross Cathey; and great-grandchildren Nathanael Robert Polk, Abigail Kelley Polk and Anna Catherine Polk.  
Mrs. Polk was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Clyde Polk Jr.
A memorial service honoring Mrs. Polk’s life will be held at 1 p.m., July 12, at Lake Pointe Church, in the Pier 4:19 building at 701 E. I-30, Rockwall, Texxas, with Dr. Bill Cathey and Dr. Timothy Warren officiating.
