Margaret's Story

Margaret Katherine Houston Nichols, 84, of Prescott, Ariz., passed away peacefully at home and entered the gates of heaven on Friday, July 31, 2015. 
She was born Oct. 27, 1930, in Itawamba County to Mary “Cavie” and Octo Houston. She received an associate’s degree from Itawamba Junior College. Margaret had the opportunity to live a variety of places — North Dakota, Utah, Colorado, Louisiana, Texas and Arizona. She especially enjoyed the mountains and weather of Colorado. She was not only a mother and homemaker, but also, achieved success as a Mary Kay independent consultant, where she found joy in helping others with their beauty regimen. She was an excellent cook and made the best pies, cakes, and cinnamon rolls a family could ever experience. In addition to being a talented cook and baker, her hobbies included playing bridge, playing scrabble, sewing and traveling. She was devoted to a life of prayer, Bible study and missions. She was a former member of Lake Pointe Church in Rockwall and Willow Hills Baptist Church in Prescott, Ariz.
She is survived by two daughters, Karen Mansky of Prescott, Ariz., and Greta Nichols Bellinger of Houston; her sister, Virginia Houston Buchanan of Hickman, Neb.; and seven granddaughters, Tonya Dennis of Mesa, Ariz., Nikki Easley of Winthrop Harbor, Ill., Brena Osborne of Gurnee, Ill., Holley Sarbacker of Pleasant Prairie, Wis., Morgan Bellinger of Dallas, Meredith Bellinger York of Lanikai, Hawaii, and Mallory Bellinger of Dallas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cavie and Octo; three sisters, Opal Houston, Orpha Cates and Dixie Davis; and a nephew, Mike Cates.
A celebration of Margaret’s life was held at Waters Funeral Home, Baldwyn, Miss., on Saturday, Aug. 15, at 2 p.m. with Brother Stanley Huddleston officiating. Visitation was at 1 p.m. prior to the service. Internment followed in Kirkville Cemetery.
