Lt. Col. Luther “Lou” Westerfield Jr., Ret., 84, passed away Jan. 14, 2016, at his home in Rockwall, Texas, after a lengthy illness.
He was born Feb. 26, 1931, in Junction City, Ky., to Luther Westerfield and Cleo Jones. He was a graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan College, where he earned a basketball scholarship and fell in love with Lillian Elliott, who became his wife of 62 years. Lou served his country for 28 years in the United States Air Force, including assignments in Germany, Morocco Goose Bay Labrador, Thailand, South Korea, and all over the United States. His last assignment was as Senior Air Force Adviser to the 254th Combat Communications Group, Air National Guard, Garland, Texas. He retired in 1980 and became a real estate agent in the Rockwall and Dallas areas. He was a member of Church in the City in Rowlett.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lillian Westerfield of Rockwall; a son, David Westerfield and wife Mareska of Shreveport, La.; two grandchildren, Lindi Griffith and husband Joseph and Ryan Westerfield; two nieces, Phyllis and Wendy; three nephews, Rodney, Michael, and Gary; and numerous cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Margaret and Gordon.
Memorial services were held Jan. 17 at Rest Haven Funeral Home – Rockwall Chapel with Pastor Michael Hankins officiating.
