LaVenda Bogue Swafford, 68, passed away June 18, 2017.
She was born Aug. 17, 1948, in Marshall, Texas, to E.S. Bogue Jr. and Mollie Jo (Stillwell) Bogue. LaVenda graduated from Marshall High School in 1967. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Texas A&M Commerce and was an educator for 28 years. LaVenda lived in Rockwall, Texas, for 30 years before moving to Canton, Texas, 10 years ago. She was a member of Lake Pointe Church in Rockwall and had a strong Christian faith, was very family-oriented and was an extreme Aggie fan. LaVenda was a friend, mentor, mother and guardian angel all wrapped up in one who could be tough as nails when needed. She was a mother to all and an angel to those in need.
LaVenda had a love and passion for horses. She raised them, showed them, sold them. With her beloved horse, Bold Ruler, she won many trophies, including World Champion. She loved her dogs, Ebony, Tigger, Sydney, Aggie, Sherlock and Max (her children!!). She loved to travel, especially to the beach. LaVenda enjoyed fashion, the more bling the better. She was a member of The Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 27 years, Tom Swafford; stepsons Jeff Swafford and Steve Swafford; nephews who were like sons to her, Chase Simmons, Christopher Simmons and wife Jackie and Jade Castleberry; stepgrandchildren Jake Swafford and Julie Swafford; sister Amanda Simmons and husband Craig; brother Ricky Castleberry and wife Linda, and was blessed with numerous cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Tammie Bogue.
Funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, June 22, at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall Chapel. Graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. in Walnut Springs Cemetery, De Berry (Horton), Texas.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m.
