John E. Hill, 92, of Rockwall, Texas, passed away peacefully on Nov. 21, 2017, surrounded by family and friends as they sang and prayed for him.
He was born Oct. 21, 1925, to William Travis "Pete" Hill and Ottie Elizabeth (Reed) Hill on the family farm in Louisville, Miss., and lived there while growing up. Mr. Hill excelled at basketball while in high school and later proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was a retail store manager until his retirement. Mr. Hill married the love of his life, Betty, on Nov. 17, 1945; and they were married for 72 years until she passed away Aug. 31, 2017. He previously lived in Washburn, Mo., Memphis, Tenn., and Dallas, Texas, before settling in Rockwall. Mr. Hill was faithful to the Lord and active in his churches: Mountain Home Bible Church in Washburn, Mo., where he served as a deacon, and Rockwall Bible Church in Rockwall.
Mr. Hill is survived by four sons, Paul William Hill and wife Rebecca, John Michael Hill and wife Jane, Kenneth Patrick Hill and wife Mary Ann and Dennis and Wayne Hill and wife Stephanie; 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister Joan "Happy" Langford; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of loving relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, William Hill; and one sister, Jennie Lee Holder.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Nov. 25, at Rockwall Bible Church in Rockwall with Pastor Ed Smith officiating. Interment followed in Rest Haven Memorial Park.
