Joan Claycomb, 86, of Royse City passed away Jan. 22, 2013.
She was born Sept. 15, 1926, in Fate, to Homer Houston Zuspann and Ruby Mae (Roark) Zuspann. She married Ted Claycomb on June 6, 1947, in Fate. Mrs. Claycomb worked as a fifth grade teacher in the Garland Independent School District. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Royse City and was active in the Woman’s Missionary Union for more than 50 years.
Mrs. Claycomb is survived by daughters Karen Walker and husband Dan of Heath, Nancy Rhodes of Rockwall, Jan Weston and husband Ben of Canyon, and Christi Gates and husband Rob of Rockwall; a brother, Homer Zuspann of Verbank, N.Y.; sister Gail Keizer and husband John of Mansfield; grandchildren Brent Walker and wife Julie, Brad Walker and wife Leigh and Blake Walker and wife Megan, Dustin and Adam Rhodes, Ashley Johnson and husband Will, Benjamin Weston and wife Tessa, Leslie Dean and husband Dion and Ted, Haley and Carley Gates; 14 great-grandchildren; loving caregiver Erica Mapps of Greenville; and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Claycomb on March 3, 2000, and brother Jack Zuspann.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Jan. 26 at First Baptist Church, 900 Pullen, Royse City, with Rev. Robert Baldridge and Rev. Chad Hays officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends today at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m.
