Jimmy W. Courson, 81, of Rockwall passed away Feb. 10, 2014.
He was born March 27, 1932, in Como to J.L. and Berta (Sparks) Courson. Jimmy proudly served and fought for his country as a Marine in the Korean War. He served as an officer in the Dallas Police Department for 25 years and retired as a sergeant. Those who served with and under him highly respect and praise him. Jimmy was an active member of First Baptist Church of Dallas.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Martha “Sue” (Carter) Courson; children Kathy Dunn and husband Larry of Dallas, Cindy Bietendorf and husband Alan of Rockwall, Kris Courson and wife Frances of Helena, Ala., and Kyle Courson and wife Dayna of Flowery Branch, Ga.; grandchildren Katy, Amy, Justin, Jason, Kristen, Rose, Kendall, Robert, Makayla, James and Kaitlyn; great-grandchildren Evan, Zoey and Brenyn; and several nieces and nephews.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Billy, Bobby Jack, Glenn and Jack; and sister Venita.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Feb. 15, at Rest Haven Funeral Home – Rockwall Chapel with Dr. Eugene Merrill officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends the morning of Feb. 15. at the funeral home prior to the service from 9:30 to 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jimmy’s honor may be made to First Baptist Church of Dallas, the Involved for Life program at the Downtown Dallas Pregnancy Center, the Dallas Life Foundation or a charity of one’s choice.
