Jerry Matthews, 79, gentle, loving and great of soul, was born Aug. 16, 1932, and died April 27, 2012, of complications of pancreatic cancer.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughter, Sally; son, Kevin; and granddaughter, Julia.
Jerry loved tennis, golf, ping-pong, photography, art, poetry, classical music, education, spirituality, gardening, friends, family and living life. He earned a bachelor’s degree at Baylor University and a master’s in English literature at the University of North Texas. He traveled to colleges and universities in the Southwest and Great Plains for decades as a publisher’s representative. For more than half of his 18 years in Rockwall, he was the primary caretaker of his wife.
Services will be held May 10, 4:30 p.m., at Northaven United Methodist Church, 11211 Preston Road, Dallas, Texas 75230, where Jerry was an active member for almost 50 years.
Gifts in his memory may be made to Northaven’s Human Development Fund.
