Jane Gorden Bounds, former owner, editor and publisher of The Rockwall Texas Success newspaper in Rockwall, passed away Feb. 12, 2012.
She was a beloved mother, wife, grandmother and friend. Jane was devoted to family, always putting her family first. She had a great spirit for life. Jane taught her children and grandchildren by example how to treat others with kindness and respect and how to be a loyal friend. Born of Scottish ancestry, Jane was the daughter of Rufus Benjamin and Vada Augusta Lusk Gorden. She was born on the family farm in Limestone County, outside of Coolidge, Texas, on Aug. 12, 1925. Her siblings included Anna Laura Gorden Collins, Ray Benjamin Gorden and Jefferson Burney Gorden. Jane took great pride in her Southern family heritage. She still owned part of the original family farm, purchased in 1880.  Jane and Philip J. Bounds Jr. married in Coolidge in June of 1942. To this union two daughters were born, Jill and Joy Bounds. In 1949, the Bounds family purchased The Rockwall Texas Success newspaper and operated it until 1988. As a community leader, Jane received numerous awards such as  being named the first woman in the Rockwall Noon Rotary Club, Rockwall Soroptomist Women of Distinction, Daughters of the American Revolution Community Service Award, Community Builder Award Masonic Grand Lodge of Texas East Trinity 157, Lambda Upsilon Award for dedication and service, Rockwall Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Merchant Award, Rockwall 4-H and Texas A&M University Agricultural Service Award, Rockwall County Extension Frank Springer Award, Rockwall High School Alumni Service  Award, Jane Gorden’s Place 1880 Texas Department of Agriculture Family Land Heritage Program Award for a century or more of continuous ownership of a family agricultural enterprise, Rockwall Texas Success 100th Anniversary 1883-1983 State of Texas, and most importantly, being the grandmother of Julia Bliss Greenwalt Ferris and great-grandmother to Julia Bronwyn Ferris and Jocelyn Blythe Ferris.
The family would like to thank her many friends for loving Jane —  mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, friend and community leader. She loved her family and home, her birth home, Coolidge, and her beloved Rockwall. Additionally, the family would like to thank the many caregivers at Senior Care at Lake Pointe, The Arbor House, and Royse City Rehabilitation Center.
She is survived by her daughter, Joy Bounds Greenwalt; son-in-law Jim Greenwalt, Rockwall; a granddaughter, Julia Bliss Greenwalt Ferris; grand-son-in-law James Ferris; and two great-grandchildren, Julia Bronwyn Ferris and Jocelyn Blythe Ferris of Round Rock; granddaughter Lauren C. Farr, Chattanooga, Tenn.;  nephew Benjamin Gorden, Waco and Coolidge; and nieces Julia Gorden Bennett, Tillie Gorden Ashmore, Ina Gorden and Jenny Gorden of Coolidge.
