James C. Thrash III, 85, passed from this life to his eternal home on Saturday, June 3, 2017, at Broadmoor Medical Lodge in Rockwall, Texas.
He was born Oct. 5, 1931, in Houston, Texas, to James C. Thrash Jr. and Arlene (Womack) Thrash.
James married the love of his life, Barbara (Bowler) Thrash, in 1958 in Tyler, Texas. They met in Fort Worth, Texas, at a church where James was a Presbyterian minister and they fell in love. James held a Master's degree in education and history, as well as his Master's in divinity at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. He accomplished many things during his time here on Earth. He started his ministry in Fort Worth as a Presbyterian minister and later ministered in Greenville, Texas, where he was the principal of a Christian school and a Texas history teacher. James enjoyed fishing, hunting quail in his younger days, and had a passion for reading. He was a man who loved the Lord after accepting Jesus at a Billy Graham Crusade in 1952. This was a major highlight in his life.
Jim will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Barbara Thrash of Rockwall; sons Phil Thrash and wife Diane of Virginia and Paul Thrash of California; and one granddaughter, Kelsey Thrash.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Arlene Thrash, and one brother, Eddie Thrash.
Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 7, at Ross Cemetery, Second Addition in Baird, Texas. James will be buried with Barbara's grandparents in the Lones' family plot of H.A. Lones and Marie L. Lones. Arrangements are entrusted to Parker Funeral Home in Baird.
A Celebration of James's life will be held at 11 a.m, Saturday, June 10, for family and friends at the Thrash home, 6505 Cypress Lane, Rockwall 75087.
In lieu of flowers, donations in James's memory may be made to the Salvation Army.
