James A. McDonald, 94 of Rockwall passed away Dec. 9, 2013.
He was born July 3, 1919, in York, Pa., to Alexander and Elizabeth (Durham) McDonald. James proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corps (USAAC) during WWII, earning the following medals — the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and his Aviation Badge. He worked as a painter.
James is survived by his sister, Jean Grissinger; daughters Cheryl Lewis and husband Bill of Edinburg, Lynn Taylor and husband Edwin of Rockwall, and Jennifer Podor and husband David of Lenexa, Kan.; grandchildren Kimberly (Lewis) Burgess and husband Adam, Catherine Lewis, Rachel Podor, Bryan Podor and wife Francien; great-grandchildren Jackson, Skye, Benjamin, Jonathan and Katherine; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 43 years, Dorothy McDonald; and brothers Billy and Robert McDonald.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Dec. 23, at Rest Haven Funeral Home – Rockwall Chapel with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating.
