James William Adams, 59, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, finished the life God gave him on June 24, 2014, peacefully, at home with his wife Debbie and surrounded by the Holy Spirit.
He was a devoted family man, loved reading the Bible and loved the Lord with enthusiasm! James lived life to the fullest. He attended First Baptist Church of Rockwall for more than 20 years.
James “Hollywood” Adams was born in Leon, Iowa, in 1955 to parents Howard and Genie Adams. He graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas in 1973 and Mountain View College in 1976. James furthered his education at Liberty University Institute of Biblical Studies, Lynchburg, Va., graduating with honors in 1986.
James, better known as “Hollywood” to his fellow firefighters, was a dedicated fireman with the Dallas Fire Department for 28 years and retired in 2011 as a driver/engineer. In addition, he and his wife Debbie owned and actively operated Children’s Learning Center of Rockwall for over 30 years. James knew all the families and was loved by all.
James was involved in many organizations and outside activities which included; coaching the 1987 Texas Fire Fighters to an Olympic Championship and mastering, along with his son Johnny, and earning a black belt in the martial arts. He loved traveling; especially getting in his motor home with Debbie and the grandkids and going to the beach or lake.
In addition to his wife Debbie Adams, James is survived by son Johnny Adams and his wife Katherine, daughter Amy Adams and three grandchildren Brittney, Breton and Jax; parents Howard and Genie Adams, sister Ramona Adams, brother Paul Adams and wife Sheri; five nephews, Shane Powell, Shawn McFerrin, Andrew Adams, Benjamin Adams and William Adams; and two nieces Stephanie Dawson and Ellie Adams.
He was preceded in death by his brother John Adams.
A service commemorating his life will be held Saturday at First Baptist Church of Rockwall, 610 S. Goliad, Rockwall, with Pastor Steve Swofford officiating. A graveside service will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors at Rest Haven Funeral Home – Rockwall Chapel on Friday, June 27 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Adams, Joe Bartram, Dwayne King, Allen Powell, Jr., Paul Adams, Shawn McFerrin, and honorary pallbearers Andrew Adams, Benjamin Adams, Will Adams, Shane Powell, and Joey Dawson.
