Ila J. Cullins — beloved mother, grandmother, cousin, aunt and friend — went to be with the Lord on Monday, Feb. 1, 2016.
She was born in Clarendon, Texas, on Oct. 14, 1931, to Jess and Jewel Phares. Ila graduated from Savoy High School and attended secretarial school in Dallas. She married Douglas Cullins in 1960, and made her home in Rockwall the following year.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas, in 2001; her parents; and son in law Lance Holland.
Ila will be missed by her daughters, Dana K. Macalik and husband Jeff, Saundra Holland and Terri Ferguson and husband Jimmy; grandsons Justin Holland and wife Neely, Robert Miller and wife Katy, Austin Miller and Trey Ferguson and fiancée Kaylee Seymour; stepgrandchildren Julie and Eric Macalik; great-granddaughters Wiley Beth and Emma Cullins Holland; and one great-grandson on the way, Robert Lance Miller.
After the girls grew older, Ila worked for Rockwall County and Andrews Ford. It was her family and the simple things in life that she cherished, commenting often how fortunate and thankful she was. She was a devoted wife and mother who supported, respected and loved unconditionally. She was a woman of faith, believing in the power and strength of Jesus Christ’s love and the peace that awaited her upon her passing. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Heath and the “Wild Bunch” Sunday school class.
Ila was someone of courageous spirit and strong will and was a testament for all to see. Long live her beauty that comes down and through and onto all of us. She will be greatly missed, but the family is comforted knowing that she is not in pain anymore, and is in Heaven with Our Lord and Savior.
Her funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 4, at First Baptist Church of Heath with Pastor Paul Jacobs officiating.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall Chapel.
As an alternative to flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Heath, 224 Smirl Drive, Heath, TX 75032 or Rockwall Meals on Wheels Senior Services of Rockwall County; 950 Williams Street, Bldg. C, Rockwall, TX 75087.
