Delmer's Story

Retired LTC Delmer Fred Walter, 89, and a 25-year resident of Rockwall, passed away March 18, 2015.  
He was born July 24, 1925, in Manhattan, Kan., to William Carl and Agnes Wilhelmine Amalia (Gier) Walter. Delmer proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a radar bombardier and retired many years later at the rank of lieutenant colonel. He was a founding member of Joy Lutheran Church in Rockwall.
Delmer is survived by his children, Cassandra Love and husband Jim of Lawton, Okla., Nancy Richards and husband Boon of Arlington and Del Walter and wife Kathy of Rockwall; grandchildren Leigh Roper, Bryant Love, Jennifer Garza, Lindsay Walter and Kristen Mahan; great-grandchildren Sarah Roper, Ryan Roper, Garrett Love, Emily Love, Hannah Love and Kendall Love and siblings Loren Walter and Leroy Walter.  
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Shirley Walter; grandson Boon Richards and sister Corky Walter.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., March 23, at Joy Lutheran Church, 302 N. Goliad, Rockwall, with Pastor Paul Appel officiating. Entombment followed in Rest Haven Memorial Park.
