Retired Command Sgt. Maj. Jason Allen Runnels, 45, passed gently into the arms of his Lord and Savior on the morning of Feb. 7, 2016.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kari L. Runnels; daughters Brandi Marie Weber and husband Michael, Shelby Clackum, and Hannah Bailey and husband Matthew; grandchildren Lindsey and AJ; parents Willard L. and Carol A. Runnels; brothers Rob Runnels and wife Jennifer, Stephen Runnels and wife Beverly, and Shannon Runnels and wife Julie; and nieces and nephews Aimee, Rachel, Noah, Samantha, Austin, Miranda, and Alexis.
He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents and his mother-in-law, Karin.
Jason served honorably in the U.S. Army for 27 years. Jason was truly a soldier’s soldier. He positively impacted numerous lives leading by example and taking care of his soldiers. It has always been said that he was tough but fair. His impact was felt by many and he will be truly missed, but his legacy will march on in all the young men and women who had the opportunity to be trained, mentored and led by him.
As much as Jason loved being a solider, family always came first. You cannot find a better husband, father, grandfather, son or brother. Life as we know it will never be the same, but we know that we will meet one day again in Heaven.
Funeral services will be held Feb. 16 at 10 a.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Home – Rockwall Chapel. Interment will follow at DFW National Cemetery with full military honors.
The family will receive friends Feb. 15 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to the Corvias Foundation ATTN: Rita Woodcock, 1405 South Country Trail, Suite 530, East Greenwich, RI 02818. In memo line of check please write “In Honor of CSM (R) Runnels.” Their tax ID number is 20-4848228 and they will mail out donation receipts for anyone who needs one. Another option is a donation to the local VFW or Kidney Cancer Research.
