Robert Gene “Bob” Sharp was born in Spokane, Wash., July 18, 1943; and God called him home July 24, 2015.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Carol Sharp of Heath; his sister, Diane Sharp of Spokane; and a multitude of students and friends whose lives he impacted.
Bob graduated from Shadle Park High School in 1961 and from Whitworth University in 1965, where he received the Alumni Ideals Award. He attended Purdue University and the University of Denver to earn master’s degrees and did doctoral work at the University of New Mexico. He taught U.S and Russian history at Eastfield College in Mesquite for 41 years.
Bob was a very popular professor with the students and received excellence in teaching awards from Eastfield as well as the University of Texas. Upon retirement he wanted to continue to pour his life into young people and began to volunteer as a mentor and encourager, especially to athletes and coaches at Whitworth University, Rogers and North Central High Schools in Spokane, and Rockwall and Heath High Schools in Texas. Bob thrived on the relationships that he forged by his genuine interest in people. Family and friends mourn his absence, but the angels rejoice. Honor his memory by the way you live your lives.
A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, at First United Methodist Church, 140 Smirl Road in Heath.
Donations may be made in his memory to Whitworth University Institutional Advancement, 300 West Hawthorne, Spokane, WA 99251.
