Richard Eugene “Dick” McCrillis, 85, resident of Rockwall for 30 years, passed away March 1, 2015.
A native of Collbran, Colo., he was the youngest child of the late John Dean and Muriel (Cottingham) McCrillis. The family moved to southern California in early 1942, where he graduated from San Fernando High School in 1948. Following his service in the Naval Reserve, he married Joanne Volger in 1950, whom he loved deeply for more than 62 years. Dick was a family man and business owner. Blessed with a keen eye for proportion and detail, he designed and built beautiful backyard landscapes in California and in the Dallas area.
He was an engaging raconteur and bass singer with a perpetual twinkle in his eye and a love for classical and big band music. A longtime member of King of Glory Lutheran Church in Dallas, he lived his retired years in Norfolk, Va., in the addition that he designed.
Dick is survived by his three sons and their wives, Richard Thomas and Verna McCrillis, John Dean II and Lucy McCrillis, and Robert Loren and Wendy McCrillis; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Joanne; his sisters, Evelyn, Dorothy and Leora; and his brothers, Elton and Loren.
A memorial service and interment will be held at King of Glory Lutheran Church, Dallas, 2 p.m., April 17.
