Geraldine “Jerre” Mae Harvey, 79, a longtime resident of Rockwall, was born May 12, 1936, in Centralia, Ill., to the late Benjamin and Mary Gross Bumgardner. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on Nov. 18, 2015, in Dallas.
Jerre was a very active woman and a respected member of the community and of many organizations. She retired after a long career with the United States Probation Office, and counted her colleagues there not only as friends, but also as her second family. A devout Catholic, Jerre was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Church for more than 38 years alongside her husband. She also belonged to the Council of Catholic Women and held high status in the Ladies of Alhambra where she compassionately aided individuals with disabilities. Jerre was also actively involved in the Knights of Columbus and the Special Olympics. She loved to spend time with her family, and especially enjoyed cooking for family gatherings and holidays.
Jerre is dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all those whose hearts she touched.
She is survived by her lifelong friend and beloved husband of 58 years, John Joseph “Jack” Harvey; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth “Lisa” Harvey Matthews; son John Joseph Harvey Jr. (wife Shelley Virginia); grandchildren John Robert Yarbrough, Ashley Michelle Matthews, Courtney Brooke Matthews, Tyler Anthony Matthews, Laura Rebecca Harvey Sherburn (husband Cody), Benjamin Paul Harvey, and Blake Royer Mack Harvey; a niece, Susan Harvey Bainter (husband Tim); and numerous friends.
Please join the Harvey Family in celebrating and remembering the life of Jerre. A memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Church, 1305 Damascus Road, Rockwall, on Saturday, Nov. 28, at 10:30 a.m.
