William “Bill” Townsend, 83, of Rockwall passed away March 26, 2013.
He was born July 20, 1929, in North Little Rock, Ark., to Thomas Wade and Eula Mary (Sims) Townsend. Mr. Townsend proudly served his country in the United States Army in Korea. He was employed with the Mobil Oil Corporation for 38 years as an economist. Mr. Townsend was a member of First Baptist Church of Rockwall where he taught Sunday school for more than 20 years and served as a deacon. One of the things he really enjoyed was bookbinding old Bibles. Mr. Townsend also served as an ambassador at Rest Haven Funeral Home in Rockwall.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Lawan (Horton) Townsend; a daughter, Mary Margaret Worley and husband David; and grandchildren Ben, Anna and Daniel Worley.
Mr. Townsend was preceded in death by his parents and brother Thomas Townsend.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., March 30, 2013, at First Baptist Church, 610 S. Goliad, Rockwall, TX 75087 with Pastor Steve Swofford officiating. Interment followed in Rest Haven Memorial Park.
Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
